Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is a national environmental education program that brings nature, and hundreds of baby trout, into classrooms. Pat Barnes Trout Unlimited organizes the largest Trout in the Classroom (TIC) program in Montana, with fish tanks in 13 classrooms in and around Helena. At the end of the year, students celebrate their experience by releasing their trout into Spring Meadow Lake.

Developing a New Generation of Citizen-Scientists

Students in TIC classrooms have the opportunity to learn the scientific method and data gathering skills that the next generation of scientists needs. These skills include monitoring tank water quality, engaging in stream habitat study, learning to appreciate water resources, and beginning to foster a conservation ethic.
